Le bon sens /lə bɔ̃ sɑ̃s/ - Common sense
Because translation implies a deep understanding of both the source language and the target language, as well as a knowledge of the target language to mother-tongue level, translators will only work into their native language.
A good French translation must read as if it was initially written in French, for French-speaking readers. For this reason, I only offer my services for translations from English into French.
I also offer my work ethics as standard: run by a self-confessed perfectionist, Le Bon Sens Translations is not about quickly translating word-for-word just to get an assignment out of the way:
A little bit about the translator
Born and educated in France, I studied Applied Modern Languages (LEA, Langues Etrangères Appliquées), or languages for business, i.e. translation and interpreting, in English and Russian (with a hint of Polish thrown in), to Master's Degree.
This included professional subjects, such as business, export, marketing, finance, localisation, as well as the intensive study of my chosen languages, translation and interpreting methods, and much, much practice.
I then moved to the UK, where I spent the next 12 years working for companies in need of a French-speaker to handle their French customers.
Their fields of application were diverse (CAD software, pharmaceutical packaging, international transport, air products manufacturing, etc.), and much French to English and English to French translating, interpreting and marketing was required.
I moved to South Africa in 2013 and have been working as a freelance translator and copywriter since.
I use a translation tool called Wordfast, which has a earned an excellent reputation in the industry, and allows for increased consistency in vocabulary.
I am registered with the SATI (South African Translators' Institute) and the TINSA (Translators and Interpreters Network of South Africa).

- I value your reader as much as you do and will always try to produce a text that feels like it was written for them, and only for them, from the very beginning.
- I also value your business: a deep understanding of your company and culture should be reflected in the French materials, for maximum impact.
